free stylin'

I've noticed that the lack of flexing my drawing skills outside of school my artistic juices have run dry.  I've made it a point lately to style looks on my polyvore, anything to exercise that side of my brain and hopefully get the juices flowing again.

Side Note: If you're like me and you're feeling a bit tired, I encourage you to push yourself a little each day artistically in any way.  Take some baby steps, as small as they may be they most definitely add up.

Please follow me on my journey outside of the classroom and into the real working world of fashion design.  Both exciting, and nerve-racking.

standing still.

The start of the new year means figuring things out and planning.
  • Where do I see myself in three months? six months? a year?
  • What will make me happy?
  • What do I want?
In the meantime I'm going to busy my mind and bake and apply myself to my art, oh and applications, those too.

everything, all at once.

I've been in my home town for over a few months now since school ended hoping and praying that something good might come along.  I needed to face my fears, and to also move on.  I believe I'm finally ending this chapter of my life and just about to scribble out the first words of my second.  Everything came, all at once.

Within a week I was talking of taking a job 657 miles away and obtaining my license.  It really is wonderful how god moves.

Full speed ahead.

senioritis

I thought I knew what senioritis was when I was in high school, but school since this past spring break has proved me wrong.  I can't seem to be able to accomplish things when the weather is getting warmer.  Countless all nighters have left me exhausted and I'm traveling back to Michigan this Wednesday and then back here four days later.

Life is exciting, scary, all things hectic at this moment.

I may or may not be ready for what comes next, but I'm welcoming it with open arms.
What happens to this blog when I am no longer a student?

Cheers to the next few weeks.

straight stressin'

I am truly trying to update this as much as time allows. I promise.

I'm working on my term garment that's due within the next few weeks and I couldn't be more excited to see it come into fruition.

Four years has taught me a lot about what I like to design and the type of worker I am.  I'm precise with my work, detailed, and sometimes that means things take a longer amount of time for me to complete but I love seeing things come together and finally the finished product.  Shockingly I am calm about the stress I'm dealing with right now, I don't know how to explain it...

This piece took me about two weeks to drape with a makeshift arm made of loads of muslin and batting to create the contour of the hips that I wanted.  Only half draped to create a mirrored finish, thirteen pattern pieces later and I'm finally sewing.  Can't wait for the final product.

Hope all is well with you!
Keep on reading, sewing, and growing!

busy, but I'm back...

Wow, it's been over an entire year, and I just wanted to update and say that I did in fact get into that school and I'm here, in New York currently, still busy doing fashion and dealing with schoolwork.

Today I met up with a friend to grab coffee.  Together we braved the 7 degree weather to then freeze a little inside the cafe, but it was worth it.

Relaxing friday afternoons, mochas, finishing assignments and attempting new ones.  It's been a pretty productive day.
